With a population of 450,000 people, Malta is one of the most densly populated countries in the world.
The national language is Maltese, with English also being recognised as an official language. In fact, the laws of the country are enacted in both Maltese and English.
Malta’s constitution declares Roman Catholicisim as the state’s religion and infact, 98% of the population is Roman Catholic. There are more then 360 churches located across the islands of Malta and Gozo.
There are various other religious orders in Malta such as the Jesuits, Franciscans and Dominicans. There are also a few protestant churches and one Muslim Mosque.
Besides being an EU member state, Malta is also a Schengen State.
Tourists visiting Malta in 2012 were estimated at being 1.4 million.
